FIRST COOKOUT

We had our first cookout of the season. Everyone seemed to enjoy the burgers, etc. 60 Golfers enjoyed the day and the food.

There was only a nine shot difference separating the winning team from the last place team. Each team played very good golf and should be congratulated.

The winning team was comprised of Captain Randy Walters, and first mates Roy Alkire, Dennis Cosner, Barney Poole. My understanding was Barney putted the lights out.

4 teams were included in the payout of $180There were 3 skins among three teams with each skin worth $40 split 4 ways.

If you are among those receiving payouts be sure to give your card to John to have the money applied.

Next week will be individual with ABC skins. Along with that will be the Memorial Tournament. Last years Champions, Joe Cross, low net; and Butch Powell, low gross will present the new champions trophies.

It Was A Wulfert Day

It was a Wulfert (wonderful) day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the heat was coming off of Bob's clubface. He fired a masterful net 59 accompanied by 3 skins.

Conditions continue to improve along with the scores that are being turned in.

We had 55 golfers participating with a delay caused by an accident on route 2.

We had an experimental Scholastic Challenge which proved to be quite popular considering how enthusiastic the participants were to see how their team was doing.

Captain Reynolds leads team to victory in 1st Scholastic Challenge.

Jim Reynolds lead a 7 man contingent to victory. The final results were:

            Williamstown        71.143
            Other                      71.429

            Marietta                 72.428

Jolly Roger

Last week Roger Goddard broke a streak of what he considered poor rounds of golf with a round that he said was his best of the year. He continued his hot streak yesterday by leading his team to a winning 5 over par round of 285 by contributing a great 7 under par net 63 score.

Congratulations to the winning team of Roger, Alan Hall, Earl Havens, and Ron Warfield.

Second place with a fine round of 286 was the team of Roy Alkire, Jerry Hurst, Jerry Mason, and Greg Noland.

Third place went to the team of Joe Cross, Bob Forbes, Pat Stoneking, and Ralph Bickle with a round of 287.

In fourth place was the team of Fred Cross, Ted Lewis, Bob Smith and Tim Swarr with a 289.

See John to update your green card.

We had 55 golfers participating yesterday with great conditions both of the weather and the course.

We continue to get members coming back to play. Snowbirds returning from Florida were Harold Phillips, Bob Smith, and Jim Hamilton.

Glad to see Larry Coler come back after a long absence as well Bob Forbes.

Next week we will return to the individual with ABC skins format. We will add a little twist to it with a rivalry team contest as a side (optional) contest. Jim Reynolds Bernie Buttrey will collect $2 from those wanting to participate. Participants will select a team they want to join such as PHS, Williamstown, St Marys,  Marietta High School, South, and for guys Jerry Hurst (Hinton High School), Ted Lewis (East Scranton High School), and Bob Smith (Follansbee High School), we will have a team called Other that they can join. Participation is voluntary.

The team with the lowest average net score will win the entire pool to be split among the members.

This may take a little extra time so we will plan on teeing off about 9:10.

Warning High Winds

What a day. We played under hurricane force winds. The upside was we had 50 golfers willing to brave the weather and play. The downside was we had a slew of cancellations. The upside was with a few changes to the pairings and scorecards we got started almost on time and the threat of rain disappeared.

Below are the results of yesterdays play. The winning team was comprised of Roger Goddard, Mike Cullen, Lonnie Casto, and Jeff Everett.

Roger halted a drought in good scores for this season with his "best round this year." Roger fired a 4 over par 74 for the day. Joe Crislip was close behind with a round of 75.

Nest Tuesday will be a 4 man team net total event. Our newcomer members will have enough scores to establish their handicap to play for the prize money. Jerry in the locker room.
