Sorry I'm Late With This.

Sorry l'm late posting this, I was sick all day yesterday.

From the chatter and discussions before and after play, one would assume the event was enjoyable.

Some unusual scoring took place. Jim Reynolds fired a sizzling net 61 but finished third in his group because he wasn't able to pick as good of a partner as Jim Bussey and Willis Hughes.

Bussey parlayed his scoring and the ability to make a good pick in Jim Satterfield to card a 62-63 125 for first place in the A group.

Bob Smith shot a net 65 and paired that with his pick of Denny Cosner's net 62 for a score of 127 to win the B group.

Jim Satterfield shot a blazing 63 net and picked Mike Cullen as his partner which provided a net 64 for a total of 127 to win the C group.

We had 51 golfers playing and there were 18 skins.

New handicaps have been posted effective August 15th.

Don't forget next Tuesday will be a scramble with a  cookout. The menu will be baked steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans.

What A Wonderful Day

There seemed to be a consensus that yesterday was the best weather we have had for golf this year. It seemed a shame that our golf  kept us from enjoying That was not the case with the foursome of Joe Crislip, Bill Jones, Hurst, and Earl Havens. This group finished first in the two best net ball format with a 24 under par score of 116.

One shot of the pace with a score of 117 was the team Jim Taylor, Ron Miracle, Denny Cosner, and Bill Packard.

Third place went to the team of Randy Walters, Bernie Buttrey, Tim Swarr, and Tom Bobbitt at 119.

Fourth place was the team of Jim Bussey, the Cullen boys Ron and Mike, and Jim Satterfield with a score of 121.

There were 58 golfers playing and 9 skins were recorded to be split among 36 players.

Ron Cullen got greedy as he won both the longest putt on hole 9 and the proximity prize on hole 16.

Congratulations to all of the teams for turning in their scorecards.

Nest week will be a modified individual format. Each player will need to pick a partner from the list of players. That partner will provide the second score for each player. A player may be picked by more than one participant. This will test each players scoring ability and ability to pick the right partner.  A form will be provided to record the partner you select. Come early so you can take the time to make a wise choice.

Good Morning

I didn't get this post done last week. I had a zero mentality moment when I went out of town and took my laptop but forgot to take the results to post.

Yesterday we had 55 players under hot and humid conditions.

The highlight of yesterdays play was a dramatic pair of President's Cup semifinals. Roger Goddard faced off with defending champion Jerry Hurst, while Mike Poling met a red hot Barney Poole.  Roger held off Jerry to win 1 up. This projects to a real heavy weight battle between Poling and Goddard on August 15th.

Joe Crislip turned in a torrid round of 66 to take home first place in the A group, while Jerry Mason won the B group with a net score of 70, and Sandbagger Warfield won the C group with an actual round of 81 and a net of 63.

Bernie Buttrey might have been the big money winner as he recorded 4 skins with birdies on 4, 5, 13, and 16.

Next week we will play another four man team two best (net) balls with team skins.

We had another team that failed to turn in a scorecard. Please make sure that the person keeping your scores posts them in the computer and turns them in to us for scoring the places.

Hot, Humid, and Hectic

It was hot (Pushing 90), the humidity didn't help, it was hectic getting the scoring done - I had out of town company coming. As a result because of my errors in arithmetic and yours on the scorecard, haste made waste. My apologies to Bob Smith, as well as Willis Hughes team. I miscalculated Bob's net score by 10 strokes in his favor and told him and Willis that Bob had won and Willis team had come in second. Actually the reverse was true. We had one team that did not turn in their scorecard and didn't record their scores in the computer which gave us no choice but to disqualify them. Always make sure that the keeper of your scorecard records your scores in the computer and hands them in to be counted.

The heat really got to Ed Davis causing him to play only nine holes. Hope he is feeling better. Listed below are several sheets of individual detail. The net team standings (those hole scores are gross not net) and a skins scoresheet. Congratulations to the team of Willis Hughes, Joe Cross, Denny Cosner, and Ted Mayberry for their winning effort. Second place went tot he team Bob Smith, Dave Fetty, Greg Noland, and Richard Board, 3rd went to the team of Mike Riggs, Ken Grose, Jeff Everett, and Larry Britton; 4th place went to Tim Swarr, Jim Stidham, Jim Kennedy, and Larry Clinton.

Joe Crislip recorded an actual round of 69.

Results of Red, White, and Blue Scramble

There is power in prayer. When I got up yesterday morning it was pouring down the rain. A look at the weather map showed an ominous cloud that stretched all the way to Cincinnati that was moving in a northeasterly direction. At the rate it was moving it looked like it would last all day. All I could think about was apple pies that would turn blue with mold and corn that would be too dried out to eat.  Within 15 minutes, the band of rain had taken a southerly bend and the rain was starting to slack up. Needless to say the rain quit, and though the course was wet, there was no hindrance of play. We had 59 players and the preparation of the food came off without a hitch. We need to appreciate Wittens for the corn, Sams for the pies, ice cream,  hamburgers and hot dogs, and John and Suzette for their help.

The team of Pat Stoneking,  Earl Havens, and Ron Cullen fired a round of 8 under 62 to take first place, they were followed by Randy Walters team of Larry Pfieffer, Ralph Olander, and Bob Leach, third place went to the team of Jim Taylor, Roy Alkire, Bill (Red Tees) Jones, and Ted Mayberry, fourth place Jim (bitch spray) Bussey, Bill Hupp, Denny Cosner, and Larry Britton.  Next week we will play individual with ABC skins and the third round of the presidents cup.

President's Cup Results

Jerry Hurst advanced to the semi finals with a win over Dave Zoller. Ed Davis advance to the quarterfinal round with a win Jerry Kern in overtime. Barney Poole advance to the Semi finals with a win over Joe Crislip. Mike Poling moved into the quarters with a win Bob Forbes. Next matches will be held on July 18th Goddard playing Davis and Poling facing off with Warfield to try to move to the semis.

A reminder that there will be no league golf on July 4th. We will be resuming on July 11th with the Red, White, and Blue scramble and the All-American cookout.

 

Lonnie Casto

Lonnie Casto started his round on 18 with a par then hole number 1, so after the turn he was 1 under par. He completed the front with an even par 36. He finished the day with a round of 76 and a net score of 66.

This wasn't the lowest net score recorded, however, as Jack Conlon shot a net 64. There were 4 scores of 66 net by Lonnie, Denny Cosner, Steve Tice, and Ted Townsend.

We had great conditions for 56 golfers with temperatures in the mid 70s. 

The Presidents Cup opening round was held with 15 golfers participating. Jerry Hurst was given the bye as the defending champion. Next week will be the second round. 

There will be no league activity July 4th. We will resume league play July 11th. Our cookout that day will be an all American meal of Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Corn on the cobb, apple pie, and ice cream.

The play that day will be the red, white, and blue scramble.
